At Tumaini Medical Centre, healthcare goes beyond treating ailments—it transforms lives. Here are two powerful stories that exemplify the heart of Tumaini’s mission.
Maria’s Story: A Path to Resilience
Maria, a mother of seven, was referred to Tumaini when two of her children fell gravely ill. One child required immediate treatment with a drip, while Maria and her younger child were diagnosed with pneumonia. Tumaini’s care didn’t stop at the clinic doors.
Staff members visited Maria’s home, bringing essential supplies like food. This support paved the way for three of her children to receive educational sponsorships through Compassion International. Though Tumaini temporarily closed for eight months, Maria’s story opened the team’s eyes to the diverse ways they can serve their community.
Lillian’s Story: Choosing Life Against the Odds
Lillian came to Tumaini in distress, experiencing abdominal pain and fearing an unplanned pregnancy. After confirming she was five months pregnant, she shared her fears: as a single mother with two children and no income, she felt unable to continue the pregnancy. Her two previous C-sections added medical risk.
Nurse Simon referred Lillian to Nancy, who counseled her over two sessions, emphasizing Tumaini’s Christian values. Though there was concern she might seek an abortion elsewhere, Lillian chose to keep the baby, reassured by Tumaini’s promise of free prenatal care and additional support.
The team arranged for her to relocate near Tumaini, covering her first month’s rent and relocation costs. They also collected donations of clothes and food for her. Today, Lillian participates in the centre’s Thursday fellowship and testifies to the profound love and hope she experienced.
These stories reflect the heart of Tumaini Medical Centre: providing healing, hope, and community to those in need.
